MATCH PREVIEW | Southport v Kidderminster Harriers
Southport have the opportunity to atone for Tuesday’s mauling at the hands of Stockport County when they welcome Kidderminster Harriers to the Merseyrail Community Stadium on Saturday.
Alan Lewer expressed his disappointment with the performance at Edgeley Park after the game, and he must now rouse his troops to recover and gain three points from a game which is, on paper, very winnable.
Kidderminster have picked up just three points from a possible twelve away from home this season, whilst the Sandgrounders are undefeated at home.
Harriers currently lie 15th in the Vanarama National League North table, without a win in three games, and therefore represent a real opportunity for Southport to return to winning ways and reignite the form that saw them surge to the upper reaches of the league table at the start of the season.
That said, Southport fans will not need any reminder about the capabilities of Kidderminster’s Declan Weeks. The midfielder was an integral part of the side that looked to be strolling away from the National League relegation under Steve Burr, only to watch on as the survival bid went up in smoke following the managerial changes.
Weeks will be looking to feed Joe Ironside and Emmanuel Sonupe, two forwards who have both been amongst the goals for John Eustace’s side.
However, the visitors will most likely be without experienced defender Lee Vaughan for Saturday’s game as he continues his recovery from a broken leg sustained as a Tranmere player against the ‘Port at the end of last season. The right back said upon signing for the Aggborough side that he hoped to be fit for early September, but is yet to feature in a matchday squad.
