Marine Drive partially closed after vehicle hits pier

Police have closed off part of Marine Drive by Southport Pier after a lorry reportedly crashed into the iron structure.

Officers from Merseyside Police have closed of the road between the Guelder Rose and DW Fitness this afternoon around 1pm following the collision between a tall heavy goods vehicle and the cast iron pier.

The road remains closed which safety inspections to the pier are carried out to see if any serious damage has been done
