A man suspected of sending racist tweets about Liverpool FC’s star striker Mo Salah has been arrested.
Everton Football Club condemned the social media posts in a statement after they were allegedly sent by one of their supporters.
The tweets contained racist slurs and pictures of the Egyptian forward.
The 32-year-old from from Waterloo, who is suspected to be behind the tweets and other offences is now being questioned by detectives.
The spokesman said:
A man has been arrested after an offensive tweet was posted in relation to a Liverpool footballer.
Following enquiries a 32-year-old man from Waterloo was arrested shortly before 9.30am today on suspicion of a racially aggravated public order offence, and obstructing an officer in the execution of their duty.
