Man hospitalised after being stabbed in back in town centre

A man was taken to hospital after he was stabbed in the back in the town centre last night.

Officers were called to Royal Terrace, off West Street, at 9:04pm on Thursday evening.

He was later transported to hospital by North West Ambulance Service and treated for minor injuries.

A police presence remained in the area as of midnight last night, with officers seen speaking to passers-by.

Officers confirmed on Friday morning that the victim and the suspect were known to each other. A 37-year-old man was later arrested.

Police have now launched an investigation into the incident.
