Man charged with murder after Southport student’s body found at university halls of residence

A man has been charged with the murder of a Salford University student from Southport.

At about 1pm on Monday a man approached a Police Community Support Officer on patrol in Manchester to say a man had been killed and his body was at a flat on Cannon Street, Blackfriars, Salford .

The flat was on the first floor of Bramall Court, a University halls of residence.

Officers attended the flat and discovered the body of a man. He appeared to have suffered a number of stab wounds.

The man has been identified as 30-year-old Salford University student William Lound.

“Specialist support officers are with William’s family and we are working closely with Salford University to offer support to anyone affected.”

Lee Arnold, 36, has been charged with murder and is due to appear at Manchester Magistrates’ Court.

Supt Mark Kenny said: “We believe this an isolated incident and we don’t believe there is any risk to the wider community.”
