Man charged following assault in Southport

Detectives have charged a man following an assault in Southport in the early hours of yesterday, Sunday 9 May.

At around 3.10am, emergency services attended Wesley Street to reports of a man in his 40s being found with a head injury. He was taken to hospital with serious facial injuries.

The incident is believed to have happened in the Bedford Road area. A man was detained and arrested and enquiries continue at this location.

27-year-old Alvis Zabitis of Hawesside Street, Southport has now been charged with GBH with intent.

He was kept in custody and will appear this morning (Monday 10 May) at Wirral Adult Remand Court.
