Residents in Southport town centre have told of their absolute terror following reports of a man wielding an axe.
Police told OTS News today that they have arrested a 22-year-old man from Bootle following an incident on Shakespeare Street in Southport last night.
It followed reports of residents around the area that a disgruntled individual showing signs of distress and reportedly wielding a weapon, described by eye witnesses as a type of axe.
A police spokesperson said: “We have arrested a 22-year-old man from Bootle on suspicion of affray and possession of an offensive weapon in a public place
“Officers were called to Shakespeare Street in Southport last night at just before 8.55pm following reports of a disturbance.
“Nobody was injured during the incident.
“The man remains in custody.”
