Man arrested and drugs seized following stop check in Southport.

Officers in Southport, have today (Friday, 22 June) arrested a man and recovered a quantity of drugs following a stop search on the Promenade.

A 19-year-old man from Leigh was arrested on suspicion of possession with intent to supply and possession of an offensive weapon, after officers recovered a quantity of what is thought to be cocaine and heroin. Officers also recovered a quantity of cash and a long sharpened screw.

Community Policing Inspector Graham Fisher said: “These drugs have now been taken off our streets and can no longer be used to cause harm in our communities. These people who deal drugs, do not care about those they are dealing to and the impact they have on their lives and on the places they live.

“This stop search is just one example of how we work day in day out to rid our streets of the blight of drugs. While we continue to work to arrest those involved in drug supply in our communities, I would ask anyone with any information about drugs activity in their community to contact @MerPol CC or dial 101. Information can also be given anonymously on 0800 555 111.”
