Police have arrested a man and recovered suspected drugs and cash following a stop-check in Southport today, Wednesday 7 March.

At around 11am, patrols stopped a man on Milton Street on suspicion of smoking cannabis in the street.

A search was carried out an address in Cobden Road and a large quantity of suspected cannabis, cash and paraphernalia was seized. A 29-year-old man from Southport was arrested on suspicion of possession with intent to supply cannabis and money laundering and has been taken to a police station for questioning.

Local Policing Sergeant Paul Riding said: “This arrest shows that we will not tolerate the use of cannabis on our streets and in doing so, you risk drawing our attention to other criminal activities, which bring harm to those who live close by.

“I would encourage anyone in the community who suspects that drugs are being used, sold or grown in your neighbourhood to come forward and we will act on all information to make the community safer.”

You can report any information about drug use or dealing to @MerpolCC or @CrimestoppersUK and please follow your local Twitter feeds and @SeftonPolice Facebook page for updates.
