A major road between Southport and Liverpool will be reduced to one lane for up to two weeks.

Part of the the A565 which connects Southport and Formby with Crosby and the docks of Liverpool will suffer long delays over the next fortnight say the council.

A temporary traffic light system will be in place between Brooms Cross Road and Southport Road in Thornton from Monday, July 3rd to Saturday, July 15th.

This is to allow for essential combined sewer and electrical works to take place as part of a nearby housing development.

Due to the extensive nature of the works the two-way temporary traffic light system will need to be operational 24 hours a day.

A Sefton Council spokesperson said: “We understand these works are likely to cause delay and potential disruption to journeys in the area and we are encouraging commuters to seek alternative routes during peak hours.

“During the hours of 7am-7pm the temporary traffic light system will be manned in order to keep traffic flowing as quickly as possible.

“We apologise for any inconvenience this may cause.”
