M6 chaos as huge lorry fire causes miles of tailbacks

28th June 2019

A lorry has burst into flames on the southbound side of the M6 at Coventry – sparking over five miles of traffic.

The HGV has burst into flames. Queues are quickly building and emergency services are at the scene.

But Highways England has warned that it will take until 4pm to resolve the incident.

It said the fire has been extinguished.

A spokesman said: “Two lanes of three are closed, with heavy congestion expected until the HGV can be recovered and the damage to the carriageway can be assessed and made safe for drivers.”

“Lane closures will remain on all day as the fire caused significant damage to the road surface and will require resurfacing overnight.”.
