The team at Southport Dental Care @ Secrets Medi Spa are getting behind Mouth Cancer Action Month this November and offering free mouth cancer checks to help spot early signs of the disease, which claims almost 3,000 lives each year.
Organised by the Oral Health Foundation and sponsored by Denplan, part of Simplyhealth, Mouth Cancer Action Month seeks to increase public awareness of the risk factors, signs and symptoms of mouth cancer, and encourages everybody visit their dentist regularly to help catch the disease early.
“Mouth cancer can often be spotted in its early stages by a dentist during a mouth examination and, if caught early, there is a 90 percent chance of survival,” The Dentists at Southport Dental Care say “Although we routinely check our patients for signs of mouth cancer at every appointment, we’re aware that many people don’t visit a dentist regularly and are therefore missing out on this important health check. That’s why we are welcoming both existing patients and the general public to visit the practice for a free mouth cancer check. Call us on 01704 607125
“The mouth cancer check will involve a quick and painless examination, and we’ll discuss any concerns the patient may have such as long-lasting mouth ulcers, red or white patches in the mouth or other unusual lumps or swellings in the mouth, lips, head and neck.”
Dr Catherine Rutland, Head Dental Officer at Simplyhealth commented: “Cases of mouth cancer have increased by 49% in the last decade and it’s one of the few cancers becoming more prevalent year on year. Over 8,000 people in the UK are diagnosed with mouth cancer every year and, sadly, almost 3,000 of these will lose their life to the disease. Many of those who lose their battle with mouth cancer do so because the disease is caught too late. Early detection of mouth cancer is crucial and we’re extremely grateful that Southport dental care @ Secrets Medi Spa is offering free mouth cancer checks this November.”
