Lights out for historic Southport landmarks

28th August 2019

Historic lamps have been ripped down by the council on Lord Street.
Just a year after history hating council jobsworths ripped up the Lord Street red road, they have returned to take down three vintage lampposts that were put up for the Queen’s coronation.

Contractors were busy this morning tearing down all three lamps along Lord Street.

Local Heritage groups have reacted in anger saying “the only people happy with this are the council because it saves them money instead of actually looking after them and paying for them to be fixed”

“What else is left of our heritage? They took away our bathing lake, our red road and our lampposts and now we have nothing. The verandahs are next”
