Lifeboat crew reflect on busy year of life saving call-outs

1st January 2023

The volunteer run Southport lifeboat have been called to help save people on the coast more than 40 times in 2022.

Volunteers were even called out on Christmas Day, with alarms ringing just as many were tucking into their Christmas dinners.

A lifeboat spokesperson said: “As we enter the final hours of 2022, we wish to thank you all for your continued support.

“This year has seen us operate from our new Lifeboat Station, having moved in on New Years Day.

“We’ve had another busy year, with our volunteers having responded to 43 incidents, including one most recently on Christmas Day.

“We work closely with the Maritime Coastguard Agency as a Declared Facility, along with many other Search and Rescue Teams.

“A number of our crew members were awarded with Platinum Jubilee medals in June. The medals were awarded to volunteers with more than five years service.

“Our charity shop and LifeboatLotto continue to help generate a valuable income, as have all your kind donations. Without you, we would not be able to save lives around our coast.

“As we bid farewell to 2022, we wish you all a Happy New Year and hope you have a fantastic 2023.”
