It seems very strange that Southport Council will spend £3m to reboard the decking on the non-revenue generating pier when its flagship revenue generating SplashWorld water park was not given any resources to improve its facilities during their recent repair and maintenance work.

Walking down the pier, it’s evident that the decking is not rotten; it has become loose because of the train that was allowed to run its length, often empty. Did the council ever generate any funds from that train?

I find £3m an extortionate sum of money for these “decking” repairs. The Council needs to justify this figure. Splashworld was allocated about £1.5m.

Furthermore, we have just encountered another season of litter on the seafront…. can The Council not replace the small useless tatty litter bins they have with some seagull-proof and larger-sized waste bins.

Who is in charge of litter collection? The litter problem is an absolute disgrace in a tourist town, especially around KFC and Mcdonald’s.
