One hour a day for Four Days! Starts on 22nd July!
Gail Rickett who is known as The Water Whisperer is running a one hour a day, for four days learn to swim or improve course starting on the 22nd of July at 4.00pm or 5.00pm start.
Gail, who has been featured on television for her results has told us that some children in the past have learned three strokes and swam as far as 1/4 of a mile on her courses. Gail has been a swimming teacher for all her life and has developed her method of teaching a pupil to swim from her experience and training as a swimming teacher and competitive athlete. There’s no poolside waiting for a turn and breaststroke and backstroke are the first two styles Gail teaches, to pupils as young as two years old.
Gail has weekly lessons in Southport, Ormskirk, and Wigan after school and at weekends for all ages and abilities. On Fridays in Southport Gail has a specialist Mums and Toddler class which has proven to be very popular with babies and toddlers, like Alice who has taken part. Gail has the specialist Mums and Toddler Swimming Teachers certificate in addition to her Advanced Swimming Teachers certificate.

Gail tells us “Alice is now having a little swim underwater, she is adorable. Alice has taken part in a few courses now and coming on very well. I am excited to see how much Alice improves when she moves up to my technique classes.
I have had several two-year-olds and many three-year-olds swimming correct strokes, that’s generally breaststroke or backstroke with no armbands on and unaided. Herbie Silcock-Jackson was one of my most advanced two-year-olds completing 200 meters backstroke using both his arms and legs which were moving pretty well for a two-year-old. Some of my three-year-olds have swum as far as a quarter of a mile non-stop.
These fantastic pupils have to want to swim these distances a quarter of a mile takes around twenty minutes nonstop for my three-year-old to complete.”
Gail has advised us on a very important safety tip, ‘if children are weak swimmers or cannot swim it is very important they wear armbands when swimming with their family or playing around the pool. I hear of some parents believing it is wrong to use armbands. All my life I have been a teacher and a lifeguard, working in one of the biggest pools in Europe and in the USA in addition to being the first female beach lifeguard in the North West. I do not remember having to save a child or prevent a child from drowning who had armbands on! I hope everyone has a great summer and are safe in the water.”
