Hopeful plans to launch a tidal lagoon in Southport seem to have been left on the bottom of the sea.
The news that a £1.3billion scheme in Swansea is set to be rejected by ministers, has disappointed campaigners locally who wanted to harness the Sefton coast to create a state- of-the-art renewable energy source.
The Swansea Bay project is expected to be turned down largely due to concerns over high costs to consumers.
It was hoped that a similar scheme would be looked at favourably for Southport should the Swansea tidal lagoon be given the go-ahead.
