by
10th December 2015

129 years ago today, the people of Southport and St Anne’s were realising that 27 of there Lifeboat men were not coming back from trying to save the crew of the German ship, the Mexico.

For those wishing to remember the brave volunteers that lost their lives whilst selflessly trying to save others, there will be a lantern parade leaving the memorial obelisk on The Promenade, Southport at 9pm this evening, Thursday 10 December.

The parade will lead to the Fishermen’s Rest, which was used as a temporary mortuary for the victims bodies after the tragedy.

There will be the annual quiz night at the Fishermen’s Rest, with the proceeds being donated to the new lifeboat house project. We look forward to seeing you this evening.
