Lancashire Care wins award at prestigious HSJ Value Awards

Lancashire Care NHS Foundation Trust bagged an award at the HSJ Value Awards ceremony, held to recognise and celebrate outstanding improvement in care quality and efficiency by the NHS staff and organisations.

The Trust received the ‘Improving the value of NHS support services’ award for its commitment to patient safety. The organisation showed it’s dedicated to becoming a learning organisation and was commended for creating a team of specialised serious incident investigators to learn why an incident occurred in order to prevent it happening again, or to minimise the likelihood of a recurrence.

The team have also been working closely with service users and family members who had been involved in a serious incident to recruit investigators and develop storyboards to be used in staff training to improve the Trust’s response to people affected by an incident.

Matthew Joyes, Associate Director of Safety and Quality Governance at Lancashire Care NHS Foundation Trust said:

I am so proud that the Trust has been recognised nationally for this award. Being affected by a serious incident in healthcare is distressing for all those involved and can have life changing consequences. Our team work tirelessly to ensure we involve those people affected by serious incidents in our investigations, to understand what happened and ensure we do all we can to prevent something happening again. I am delighted that we have received the award which rightly recognises my team and the Trust for this important piece of work.”

Alastair McLellan, Editor, HSJ, said:

“In July the prime minister has promised to reveal a historic funding settlement for the NHS. However, this welcome and long overdue boost will not remove the need for the NHS to deliver high quality healthcare which is also value for the money spent on it. Indeed, the extra money is likely to come with even greater scrutiny on NHS efficiency.

“The winning entrants of the HSJ Value Awards all demonstrate that the NHS is constantly seeking ways in which to enhance both the quality of care while making every penny count.”
