Labour’s top Southport-born politician has revealed that he will be cheering on Belgium against England in their World Cup match tonight.
Former Farnborough Road pupil Richard Corbett MEP (left) has grown so fed up with watching England lose over the years that he says has given up supporting them – and is backing Belgium in tonight’s big game.

In a blog post, Mr Corbett, who used to represent Southport in Europe but then moved to Yorkshire, has told how he has spent four decades being disappointed by England’s performance on the pitch.

He wrote: “By 2014, I was finally resigned to English failure. But for once it was not bad luck! ‘We came bottom of our Group in the initial group stage, behind Costa Rica (!), Uruguay and Italy. And now? Come on Belgium!”
Irish Prime Minister Leo Varadkar (right) too, has declared that he is joining the top Labour man in supporting Belgium against England in tonight’s world cup clash.
