Labour candidate accused of plagiarising Conservative MP’s speech
Labour’s Liz Savage is under pressure after allegedly plagiarising her speech to the party’s conference in Liverpool.
Talking about Southport, the Labour candidate – who lives in West Lancashire – mentioned that Lord Street is ‘reputed to be the inspiration for Napoleon’s tree-lined boulevards of Paris.’ Last year, in his first speech to Parliament, MP Damien Moore said the same thing:
‘[Southport] has a fascinating history, and at one point hosted the exiled Prince Louis Napoleon Bonaparte…Legend has it that he was so impressed with the tree-lined boulevard of Lord Street that he would later instruct his architects to make Southport a model for the grandiose Parisian boulevards that are the envy of the world today.’
Ms. Savage also praised the ‘wonderful borough’ of Sefton.
A former Labour activist, who wishes to remain anonymous because of the party’s bullying culture, said it was typical from someone with no connection to Southport. ‘She claims our Conservative MP is wrong in everything he says, then copies his speeches more or less word-for-word.’
Liz Savage has yet to comment on these plagiarisation accusations.
