Formby member and England international Paul Kinnear won the Crosby Challenge Plate, the opening event in the Galvin Green Northern Order of Merit, at West Lancs when no-one matched or beat par over 36 holes in testing conditions.
The Formby plus-four ranked player strung together rounds of 74 and 73, three over all told, to prevail by a stroke of Manchester’s Joe Brice who posted a brace of 74s.
Birdies were few and far between but Kinnear rolled in three in four holes from the 10th in the morning then added two more early in the second round.
