King’s Gardens retains Green Flag Award

25th July 2023

King’s Gardens in Southport has retained its Green Flag and has been announced as one of 2216 UK winners.

The international award, now into its third decade, is a sign to the public that the space boasts the highest possible environmental standards, is beautifully maintained and has excellent visitor facilities.

Green Flag Community Awards have also been awarded to Friends of Rotten Row and South Park Community Garden.

The news that these spaces have achieved the accreditation – the international quality mark for parks and greenspaces – is a testament to the hard work and dedication of the Green Sefton team and fantastic network of volunteers that make Sefton’s greenspaces a great space that everyone can enjoy.

Cllr Ian Moncur, Sefton Council’s Cabinet Member for Health & Wellbeing, said: “We are delighted to receive Green Flag Awards across the borough once again.

“Having quality green spaces is very important to residents and visitors, and this award celebrates the dedication that goes into maintaining all of them to such a high standard.

“As well as having a great network of volunteers, we have also put a lot into bringing together our dedicated Green Sefton team which work to ensure a joined up approach to the management, development and oversight of our beautiful coastline, parks and green spaces for years to come.”

The Green Flag Award scheme, managed by environmental charity Keep Britain Tidy under licence from the Department for Levelling Up, Housing and Communities, recognises and rewards well-managed parks and green spaces, setting the benchmark standard for the management of green spaces across the United Kingdom and around the world.
