An investigation has brought to light an archaic law which could see the King of England get all of your money after you die in Southport.
Residents of Southport who pass away without leaving a Will or have no immediately identifiable next of kin could lose all their wealth to King Charles.
That’s because Southport historically falls within the Duchy of Lancashire.
Financial assets known as bona vacantia, owned by people who died without a will or known next of kin, are collected by the duchy.
Over the last 10 years, it has collected more than £60m in the funds in the region.
Previously people were told that, after deducting costs, bona vacantia revenues are donated to charities.
Recently money passed to the King’s wallet contributed towards new roofs, double-glazing windows, boiler installations and more at properties owned by the Royals.
