Buckingham Palace has announced that King Charles will visit Southport later today.
His Majesty will travel to Southport to “express his continued support for those affected by the 29th July attack, and the riot which followed in the town, and to thank frontline emergency staff for their ongoing work serving local people.”
The King will first attend a private meeting at Southport Town Hall with a number of those affected by the Hart Street attack, including children who were present, along with their families.
The King will then meet members of the community outside the Town Hall.
His Majesty will then head to Southport Community Fire Station to meet members of the emergency services and local groups impacted by the recent disorder, including faith leaders.
The visit will be the first time Southport has welcomed the reigning monarch since 1985.
In a message following the Hart Street attack, His Majesty said in a statement: “My wife and I have been profoundly shocked to hear of the utterly horrific incident in Southport today. We send our most heartfelt condolences, prayers and deepest sympathies to the families and loved ones of those who have so tragically lost their lives, and to all those affected by this truly appalling attack.”
The King said he had been “greatly encouraged by the many examples of community spirit that had countered the aggression and criminality from a few” after the national disorder.
