Novice cyclist Kevin Lee has decided to see how many miles he can cycle in 30 days throughout March for the Cycle for Dementia Challenge.
The Cycle of Dementia Challenge is for Alzheimer’s Society where they are throwing down the gauntlet asking people to cycle 100, 250 or 500 miles in 30 days.
Kevin spoke to Mighty Radio’s Cassie James this week on her mid-morning show.
“Due to lockdown I’m unable to work so I decided it would be a good idea to put my time to good use and I’m doing a 250-mile cycle ride, not all in one day, over the period of march.
“The idea is to get sponsors and my target is to raise £200 for the charity.
“I did have some lead up practices, my idea of cycling before was probably about three times a year where I’d cycle to the local café eat a full English breakfast and cycle back!
“My intention is to try and cycle 10 miles a day.
“It was tough going to start with but I’m getting into the flow now.”
The past twelve months have been tough for everyone but people with dementia have been hit extremely hard and with tight restrictions in place the support networks people usually rely on have been disrupted.
Alzheimer’s Society provide crucial support services and a lifeline to sufferers and they are working tirelessly to help as many people as possible.
Alzheimer’s Society is transforming the landscape of dementia forever. Until the day we find a cure, we will create a society where those affected by dementia are supported and accepted, able to live in their community without fear or prejudice.
