Kerry aims to conquer marathon for Royal Society for Blind Children
Kerry Howorth from Southport will be taking place in this year London Marathon to raise funds for the Royal Society for Blind Children (RSBC), A national charity that has grown a special place her my heart.
Kerry said: “I hope to raise money by running the virgin London marathon for the Royal Society for Blind Children (RSBC), A national charity that has grown a special place in my heart. Unfortunately my niece was diagnosed with biolatric optic nerve coloboma with nystagmus earlier this year, resulting in her being registered blind at the young age of six months.
My passion has always been to compete in the Virgin London Marathon at some point in my life, but to run and complete the marathon for a significant cause will be more rewarding and this challenge will require self discipline, motivation and support from family, friends and the public.
Before running the Virgin London Marathon, I hope to raise funds to achieve my target and support the RSBC. I shall do this by holding fund raising activities such as blind folded speed dating, a race night including a raffle, blind folded wine tasting and lastly a peer support group within the healthcare profession, “getting to know me through touch”. This session shall include discussions and demonstrations of therapeutic intervention, where I and others can explore the barriers individuals may face and understand and acknowledge how to support visually impaired children and speak openly about living with a visual impairment.
By achieving my target fundraising sum, I will be providing the RSBC with a contribution so they can continue to provide a family support service, and deliver an educational base where young people can attend the uniquely designed “Dorton College” which delivers a personalised and specialist services to young people with a visual impairment.
Finally, thank you again an please visite my JustGiving page. This is my vision, and I hope I am painting a clear picture of my ideas that can hopfully inspire you into action to help support me to achieve my challenge.
