Soutport boxer Jon Lund was in action again last weekend for the newly-formed JDC Promotions.
Lund’s ring hire firm, WDQ, was responsible for the canvas and lighting but later in the evening the boxer stepped into the ring in his own right.
He was up against Scott ‘Sledgehammer’ Aitken from Leeds in a four-round cruiserweight title bout.
Lund’s trademark ‘old man’ outfit of pyjamas, glasses and a dressing gown was complemented by the addition of a Zimmer frame, a joke that went down well with the local crowd.
Both boxers were cautious in the opening round but the Leeds man landed the heavier shots.
Lund slipped a few rounds behind, wary of Aitken’s wild but heavy swings.
Finally in the fourth round Lund threw caution to the wind and took the fight to Aitken but it was too little, too late.
Aitken was given the decision after four rounds.
Never one to turn down a fight, Lund popped up again the following night in Manchester when a boxer failed to turn up.
Although scheduled to just be refereeing, Lund offered to take part in an exhibition fight with novice Roy Cardiff.
Lund, ever the gentleman, took it lightly in what was an agreed exhibition with a draw verdict.
Next Friday sees Southport’s Normal Marshall and Karl Brown back in action at the Adelphi Hotel in Liverpool.
