A Southport firm which has a 108-year-old heritage has been bought by an industry leading storage solutions company, securing 25 local jobs.

Railex Filing and Railex Storage, which manufacture and supply office filing and record management products has been acquired by Chorley based Brysdales after closing its doors earlier this summer.

And, all 25 members of staff, many of whom have worked for the company for more than two decades, have now returned to work under the leadership of new Managing Director, Elizabeth Porter.

The acquisition gives Brysdales a strong foothold in the office based market and complements its core business of delivering storage solutions for a wide range of environments.

Elizabeth Porter, Managing Director of Brysdales, which has been supplying storage solutions to companies across the UK for more than 40 years, said an exciting future lies ahead.

She said: “We are delighted to have acquired Railex Filing and Railex Storage, which are extremely well known brands with an incredible team, heritage and reputation.

“It was very humbling when every single member of staff returned to work for Railex, and they have my word that we will succeed. The company is extremely well known in Southport and clearly has a loyal and dedicated work force.

“Railex is a great brand that is extremely well known both here in the UK and with customers across the world in Europe, America, and South Africa.

“For Brysdales, the acquisition means we now have a strong foothold in the filing and record management sector and it complements our core vision of delivering storage innovation for every kind of business and organisation.

“By merging the expertise of both companies, we can grow market share and look forward to creating exciting new opportunities in the future.”

North West based law firm Farleys Solicitors advised Brysdales on the acquisition. Charlotte Mills, Corporate Solicitor, led the transaction and commented:

“We’re delighted to have worked with Brysdales on this acquisition. Brysdales is a great company and has enjoyed strong and sustainable growth over the years.

“The acquisition of Railex is not only a fantastic addition to the business, but a significant step forward for Elizabeth and her team in terms of strengthening their market share. We wish them the best of luck.”

Railex Filing’s product range includes paper and cardboard files such as suspension files, folders, wallets and transfer files as well as medical and specialist filing for the label printing and graphic arts industry.

Railex Storage supplies metal storage cabinets and mobile shelving including medical filing and plan chests for large format documents.

The brand is widely known in the legal, accounting and finance sectors as well as healthcare, education and social care.

Railex was founded by the Wilson family in 1908 and celebrated its centenary in 2008 with a series of celebrations including a collection of History of Railex memorabilia. The business was later sold in 2013.
