“JAILED” Prolific Southport burglar handed a four years and four months sentence.

Merseyside Police are pleased to inform the public that a prolific 34 year-old burglar has been sentenced after he committed a spate of offences between August 2017 and February 2018.

Gerard Sanders, of South Park Road, Kirkby, appeared at Liverpool Crown Court where he pleaded guilty to eight counts of burglary.

Sanders was sentenced to four years and four months. Half of which will be served in prison and then the remainder to be served on licence.

After an extensive investigation, officers were able to link Sanders to a number of offences around the Crosby and Birkdale area that saw him target residential properties, stealing jewellery and money.

Detective Inspector Robbie Moss said: “I’m pleased with the hard work of my team who have been able to bring Sanders to justice.

“Not only did they conduct all the usual searches, they were also able to trace Sanders route by analysing the train lines he used. This piecing together of his movements proved vital in identifying him as our suspect.

“I hope this reassures the public that we’ll continue to seek offenders and bring them to justice.

“No one should feel scared in their community and we will do our best to continue the policing and investigative work that goes on behind the scenes to bring justice to all victims of crime.”Pr
