It’s a dog’s life for Leyland Road residents

6th April 2018

Furious Leyland Road residents are asking themselves: “ is ours the most dog fouled road in Southport ?”

They say that their road is constantly littered with dog mess and poses a potential health hazard as well as being unsightly.

Cambridge Ward councillor Pat Keith, called in by residents to inspect the road accompanied by prospective Lib Dem candidate Leo Evans, said:

“ I could hardly believe the amount of dog mess along this road and even when I was there I had to alert a young family with a child in a buggy who almost walked through it.

“ It is appalling that some dog owners allow this to happen. Sefton Council told residents that they will sluice the pavements but this is a temporary measure…. the real solution is for people to behave in a responsible manner.”

One of the residents Mr Andrews said: “ I am aware of at least two partially sighted people living here who would find it very difficult to see and avoid the dog mess, some of which is blatantly left in the middle of the pavements spoiling an elegant road.

“ I think it would help if one or two of these irresponsible owners

were discovered and subsequently fined for their actions.”

Leo Evans, who posted a batch of anti-dog fouling notices in Leyland Road, said: “ On one particular stretch there was so much dog mess that a passerby said to me ‘ You’d think an elephant had walked  down here! ‘

“ I would urge anyone who sees regular dog fouling offenders to call 0845 150 0845 so that the dog warden can be alerted.”
