A pop up cycle lane in Southport which has cut off a once busy arterial road through the town has infuriated motorists.
Work has been completed on closing off half of the carriageway on Queen’s Road in Southport and after decades of being open to Cars, now only bikes and the occasional bus are allowed through.
But despite no entry signage and new look road markings, it appears not everyone is used to the changes.
Gerry Baylis, who lives in a set of flats across from the new cycle lane, said “it’s an absolute joke of a system.
“That road has always been busy and it’s a good cuthrough to get to Cambridge Road and Alexander Road without having to go round the houses.
“Nobody is paying any attention to it anyway. Yesterday (Sunday) I watched at least 20 cars over the course of the day drive through the no entry signs.
“They probably didn’t even notice they were there. After years of being able to drive there, you aren’t always looking out for it to be suddenly blocked off.”
