Idiot drivers still using mobiles at the wheel regardless of tougher fines

21st March 2019

Reckless drivers are still using mobile phones behind the wheel and are returning to their old ways despite tougher penalties, research says.

The RAC Report on Motoring survey, which questioned 1,800 drivers, showed that 47% of drivers aged 25-84 make or receives phone calls with a handheld phone, while they are behind the wheel. This is a seven per cent escalation over the year before.

These irresponsible drivers are placing not only their own lives at risk but those of every other driver they encounter. Clearly, the punishment is not enough.

Many are calling for 5-year driving bans and harsher fines or even imprisonment to tackle these selfish mobile-using idiots. These morons are placing us and our families at risk of injury and death each day on the UK’s busy roads.

Meanwhile, Magistrates have blamed the Government of “compromising” open justice in pursuit of efficiency in the courts by putting in place a structure that is seeing hundreds of thousands of offences dealt with behind closed doors.

Beckham joins the ranks of idiot mobile users behind the wheel

Former England Soccer Captain, David Beckham, recently became the latest celebrity to have his guilty plea for a motoring offence processed out of the public gaze when his self-admittance that he had been using his mobile phone while driving his Bentley was considered under the administrative process known as the “Single Justice Procedure”.
Beckham also avoided a speeding prosecution in 2018 on a technicality.

The current leniency of the law and UK’s idiot drivers place us all at risk.

The UK’s first road signs which will electronically detect and warn drivers who are using mobile phones have been introduced. These signs can detect when signals are being transmitted by a mobile telephone inside a car, and then flashes a symbol of a mobile phone with a line through it to remind drivers not to use their handsets while behind the wheel. The road signs work by using a scanner to detect the radio signals emitted when someone in the car is connected to a call, with this data used to illuminate a sign further down the road.

The scanner can pick up both mobile phone radio signals and Bluetooth signals and differentiates between the two. This means those using Bluetooth for a hands-free connection, will not be warned by the sign, as if the scanner picks up a Bluetooth signal, it will disable the light.

The current leniency of the law and the UK’s idiot drivers misusing mobiles at the wheel places us all at risk.

These idiots can, however, have their registration plates noted by fellow motorists and be reported to the police for dangerous driving who may, at their discretion, visit the driver at home with the potential to take further action.

Safety first – leave your mobile switched off in the car or risk prosecution or/and accidents!
