The majority of the support from the evening came from the Lib Dems and Sue McGuire.

Liz Savage also received warm support on the night but it was Terry Durrance of UKIP that most people seemed to take a disliking to. Damien Moore was heckled for his ongoing support of Theresa May as well as booing everytime the word coalition was mentioned.

In one strange instance a member of the audience was told to ‘f**k off’ by other audience members after he suggested a grammar school should be built in the town.

The chair was also slated by angry members of the audience who didnt get to ask their questions, while many thought he was showing too much favour to the lib den candidate.

Southport will vote for its next MP on Thursday.
