Government officials will review regional coronavirus restrictions next week, with the allocations to be decided on Wednesday 16th December.
But have cases fallen enough across the Liverpool City Region to be considered for tier 1?
In Southport, there have been 70 diagnosed, declared cases over the past 7 days, with 255 diagnosed cases across Sefton.
However ZOE, a health science company, estimates that there are 339 coronavirus cases, both diagnosed and undiagnosed, in Southport and 1,234 in the wider Sefton area.
This number is reached via data provided by residents to an app monitoring symptoms.
Mass testing for Southport residents begins on Wednesday for those not experiencing symptoms, though the testing service is primarily aimed at NHS and key workers.
However while cases in Sefton continue to fall, from 74.9 cases per 100,000 at the beginning of December to 70.2, other areas in the Liverpool City Region started to see small rises even before the introduction of tier 2.
As such it remains unlikely that Southport will be moved into tier 1 next week.
An announcement on any reallocation of local restriction tiers will be made next Thursday, December 17th.
