Hot Site plan would see major hospital expansion

A shocking report has recommended that Southport Hospital is used as new ‘hot site’ for redevelopment – but only if maternity and paediatric services could be moved to a nearby Trust.

The Northern England Clinical Senate advice to the Southport and Ormskirk Hospital NHS Trust, looks at both the cases for Ormskirk Hospital and Southport Hospital separately to take on the role of a ‘hot site’ where services would be reconfigured.

The case for Ormskirk as the ‘hot site’ includes that it has “the better estate, significant space to grow, extensive unused theatre and bed capacity and would be cheaper.”

The additional capacity would
improve patient flow and shorten A&E times to fit government targets.
To enable this to happen, there would also need to be a significant development of the Southport site
