Homeless shelter open to Southport rough sleepers during cold weather snap

Due to the cold weather forecasts, this service will be open from 10:00PM THURSDAY 17th to 07:00AM FRIDAY 18th January, and the following nights if temperatures continues to drop. When the centre is open it will be advertised at SOUTHPORT HOUSING CENTRE on Eastbank Street and at the TOWN HALL on Lord Street.

This service is available to those who are unable to use the sit up services available for some reason. Individuals found sleeping on the streets in toilets, doorways or tents can use this service should they wish.

This service is available 365 days a year. Places are limited, but available from 8:00PM on a ‘first come, first served’ basis. You should be registered on ‘MAINSTAY’ to use this service. “You will be safe, warm and given a mat and sleeping bag. There are shower facilities and hot food/drinks until 08:00AM the next morning.”

Outreach workers and local policing staff will be making sure that any one found begging, sleeping rough/homeless on the streets of Southport are aware of these services. Please feel free to pass the information on to anyone you see on the streets today and help those in these situations get some respite from the cold, even if only for a short time.

The following are the DAYTIME SERVICES provided by local churches, charities and other agencies, offering homeless people and rough sleepers some respite from doorways and the cold weather. If you know of other services, please let us know in the replies.

VIVESCO CAFÉ, CHRISTCHURCH, LORD STREET MONDAY – SATURDAY 10:0AM – 3:30PM – Hot drinks and temporary shelter available for the homeless.

THE SOUP KITCHEN, 75 LONDON STREET. OPENS WEDNESDAY, THURSDAY, SATURDAY, SUNDAY – 11:00AM -2:00PM – Hot food and drinks.

THE MARIAN CENTRE, ST. MARIES CHURCH, SEABANK ROAD Open MONDAY – FRIDAY 10:00AM – 12:00PM and 2:00PM – 4:00PM – Hot food and drinks.

SHORELINE CHURCH FOODBANK, 9 MORNINGTON ROAD OPEN MONDAY, TUESDAY, THURSDAY, FRIDAY 3:00PM -6:00PM
