The Grasshopper micropub in Hillside has been voted the best pub in Southport by CAMRA, the Campaign for Real Ale.
The Southport and West Lancashire branch of CAMRA has held a vote amongst its 700 members and decided to give the award to the Grasshopper micropub which only opened in 2016.
Doug MacAdam, chairman of the branch said “The beer scene is changing so quickly now that we wanted to change from just an annual award to give Seasonal awards. The Grasshopper has been voted the CAMRA Pub of the Year for Summer 2017”.
The Grasshopper serves a frequently changing range of real ales and real ciders and has caught the eye after holding a serves of beer and cider festivals and other events over the summer.
The Grasshopper beat off strong competition from runners-up The Sparrowhawk (Woodvale), The Heaton’s Bridge Inn (Scarisbrick) and The Ship Inn (Lathom). The CAMRA award will be presented to the pub by Doug MacAdam on Wednesday 28th February at 7:30pm.
Andrew Frith the owner said “We are honoured to receive this award. Our approach of offering excellent real ales at a reasonable price is very popular. We have now extended our range to offer a selection of 8 real ales.”
The Grasshopper is in Sandon Road close to Hillside Train station.
