Hillside lights up!
Hillside traders have clubbed together to pay for Christmas decorations this year to brighten up the area. A working party of volunteers gave up their day on Monday to decorate the area along Sandon Road give it a Christmas feel.
Angela Frith from the Grasshopper Micropub said “Our customers have been very generous and have raised over £500 through donating change and fund raising events like raffles and quizzes, there have been some very generous donations. The time has now come to get the benefits of those efforts and they can be very proud of what they have achieved.”
The council has offered to help with next year’s decorations and the plan is to have a large living Christmas tree in the centre of the village. The council will be building a tree pit and installing electric cabling for the tree. They will also install new street signage to give Hillside Village a more distinct identity.
Ray a local resident said “I remember Hillside having a large Christmas tree and decorations but that is over 30 years ago. The character of the village has changed in that time. I hope that this is further evidence of a revival for Hillside”
