Emergency crews including a police helicopter have rushed to the end of Southport pier this afternoon.
Crews from the RNLI and HM Coastguard were called to the end of Southport pier as high tides receded around 5.30pm this evening.
Police and fire crews from Manchester Road were also called and, for the first time in many years, the Barton Police Helicopter made an emergency landing on the beach near to Southport Pier.
Emergency crews quickly closed off the area and restricted access for pedestrians and motorists around Marine Drive.
It’s thought the incident is being treated as a search and rescue mission however all emergency services are now understood to have been stood down.
An update is expected shortly.
