A Southport politician is calling for more to be done after his sister died at a level crossing in Southport.
Darcy Taylor Iveson-Berkeley’s sister died after a collision with a train on Crescent Road in January earlier this year.
He has now set up a petition calling on Merseyrail to install extra security measures at the dangerous crossing.
He said “my sister Flur McDonald committing suicide there on January 29th 2019. As she was physically weak I do believe that if this crossing was properly secured, having 4 barriers instead of having 2 (1 either side) that it could have made my sisters Suicide a failed attempt.
I am aware that Smedley Hydro is located on Grosvenor Road and perhaps there are only two barriers in case of an attack on the Government building and Emergency vehicles need to cross the barrier immediately.
There have been far too many deaths at this Level crossing including my sisters and to the best of my knowledge they haven’t all been intentional!”
