Desire for a brand new £100m state-of- the-art hospital to be built between Southport and Ormskirk appear to have been dashed following comments made by Health Secretary Matt Hancock during a visit to Southport last week.
In what will be seen as a huge disappointment to local NHS chiefs, the Secretary of State for Health and Social Care Said that the plan for smaller hospitals such as Southport and Ormskirk is for ‘upgrades rather than rebuilds’.
Mr Hancock was at the Clinical Education Centre at Southport Hospital for a tour of the site and to meet staff.
His visit came just days after he announced £2.7billion for the construction of at least six new hospitals and refurbishments and upgrades at a further 21 trusts, at the recent Conservative Party Conference in Manchester.
