Two solicitors from Southport-based medical negligence and serious injury law firm Fletchers Solicitors have been elected to sit on the committee for the UK-wide charity, Headway.
Julia Eyton and Kirsty Nickson, from the Fletchers Solicitors serious injury team, were selected to be on the committee for the Headway Blackpool Wyre and Fylde Coast branch. Julia and Kirsty have significant experience supporting the needs of brain-injured individuals and their friends and families, and were chosen to bring much needed support and specialist legal advice to the charity’s branch.
As part of the committee, Julia and Kirsty will be involved in organising/assisting in the activity days such as art and IT workshops and drop-in sessions to provide specialist advice and support on aspects of daily living. They will also offer legal advice where appropriate, aid in the promotion and fundraising of the charity and decide where funds will be spent.
Another solicitor from Fletchers Solicitors, Sarah Charnley Court of Protection Solicitor, has also been appointed to director for the Preston Headway group, further cementing the working relationship between the law firm and the charity. In Sarah’s new role, she will spend more time working behind the scenes driving and promoting Preston Headway to ensure the group reaches those who have suffered a traumatic brain injury and overseeing more of the policy making procedures.
Ed Fletcher, CEO at Fletchers Solicitors, said: “We have been firm supporters of Headway for a number of years. We have donated our advice services, professional time and funds and have even been heavily involved in the set up and development of the Headway Preston and Chorley branch. Before the Preston and Chorley branch was launched, there was very little support available to those who had suffered a brain injury in the North West. For this reason, it is important that we are committed to improving the resources available to support this group.
“At Fletchers, we specialise in helping those who have suffered from serious injury or medical negligence and are keen to extend the benefit of our professional expertise to support those in the community facing similar challenges to that of our clients. We hope to continue the relationship we have nurtured with Headway, and will support the excellent work they do through any means we can.”
Headway works to improve the lives of those who have suffered from a brain injury. It offers facilities so they can meet others in a similar situation, be provided with a support network and have good access to practical and legal advice. Its mission is to increase understanding and awareness of brain injury and its consequences whilst providing information and support to all those affected by brain injury. Headway also works to reduce the occurrence of brain injury through cycle safe and drive safe campaigns.
