Southport club gymnast Dan Purvis has retired following a ten-year career and 16 major international medals.
The 28-year-old, who trained at Southport Gymnastics Club, in Ainsdale, was a key figure in the men’s team that won a historic bronze medal in the London 2012 Olympic Games, which was Great Britain’s first Olympic medal in gymnastics for 100 years.
The gymnast, from Crosby and who went to school at Sacred Heart Catholic College, also won Commonwealth gold for Scot- land, along with team silver for Britain at the 2015 World Cham- pionships in Glasgow. He was able to represent Scotland due to his mum being from Dundee, and he went on to become the coun- try’s most decorated gymnast.
Dan said: “It’s a sad time announcing my retirement but it’s been a great run and I’m extremely proud to walk away from the sport with what I have achieved.”
