Staff from the Guelder Rose on Ocean Plaza are looking to help Afghan refugees rehomed in the North West by accepting donations this weekend.
As of yesterday (Thursday) the UK government had flown 7,000 Afghan nationals, who had worked with or assisted British forces during the West’s occupation of Afghanistan, out of Kabul airport during August’s international evacuation effort.
Guelder Rose Manager Clare Rankin said her team hope to collect “donations of clothes, shoes, toiletries and cash” to send to North West charities helping Afghan refugees.
Clare said: “We as a team are so upset and appalled to see what is happening in Afghanistan right now.
“We have decided that this weekend we will be collecting donations of clothes, shoes, toiletries and cash, and hopefully, by the end of next week, we can get in touch with some North West charities who are helping home refugees and make sure all this gets to the relevant people who really do need our help.
“We will be grateful for anything you can spare”
Any donations can be taken to the Guelder Rose at any time over the bank holiday weekend.
The team also plans to launch an online fundraising account, which is currently being reviewed by GoFundMe.
