Officers attended an incident at Lulworth Road this morning following reports that a live hand grenade was found in a back garden.
The incident took place at 8.40am this morning following the report.
Officers discovered that the item was, in fact, a plastic toy.
A Merseyside Police spokesperson said: “We attended the back garden of a property in Southport today (Monday 27 July) after it was reported what appeared to be hand grenade had been found.
“The report was made in good faith just before 8.40am, and police attended the property on Lulworth Road but on inspection the grenade was found to be a plastic toy.
