Green-fingered volunteer needed!

Do you love gardening?  Do you have a little spare time on your hands? Southport and Ormskirk Hospital NHS Trust is looking for volunteer gardeners to spend a few hours each week at either hospital.

Mostly the time will be needed in the spring and summer. You will be caring for the Baby Garden which is a memorial area, and the Education Centre garden which is for staff. Both of these are at Ormskirk. Southport’s Garden of Reflection also needs to be tended, and the Trust expects to recruit more than one person to cover all the work.

No heavy lifting, mowing or tree surgery will be involved. Jobs will include:

  • Weeding, deadheading, planting and pruning
  • Clearing pathways and keeping garden areas tidy
  • Watering during dry spells

If you would like to give a few hours, please contact Irene Gardner our Volunteer Services Manager either by email on irenegardner@nhs.net or phone on 01704 704796.

Trish Armstrong Child, Chief Executive at the Trust adds: “Volunteering is an enriching experience for all involved.  Many vitally important roles here at the Trust, from staffing the welcome desk to bringing therapy dogs to visit patients and staff, are carried out by those kind enough to give their time for free. We welcome all local people who want to share their unique talents with our Trust.”
