The GRASSHOPPER GIN hops into Hillside
The Grasshopper on Sandon Road, Hillside is the latest bar to launch its very own label premium gin. Angela and her family asked Damian Bond of Birkdale Craft Distillery to make a custom blend for them after hearing the success of the Rueters Gin launch in May.
The use of a taste competition to choose a blend to suit their customers, coupled with the raising of funds for Parkinson’s research was very significant for Angela as her mother suffering from the disease for several years and this became one of many fund-raising events she has undertaken to support research into this disease.
22 regulars attended and followed the established approach of tasting 5 gins and scoring them for attributes of Balance, Length, Intensity and Complexity. This time there was a very clear winner, with a blend that was heavy in Juniper notes compared to other gins in the Birkdale Distillery family.
Each taster paid £20 to attend, though other donations were also contributed. An amazing £684 was raised, which is £308 higher than the previous highest donations in a single tasting event – a very impressive show of generosity.
These donations will be paid to ParkinsonsUK to fund research into tackling this disease which affected parents of both Angela and Damian.
Angela commented “I cannot tell you how emotional I am at this amazing response. We have the best customers in the world.” This brings the total raised to date for ParkinsonUK to an incredible £2,604 over 8 taste competitions.
Grasshopper Gin is now on the shelves, so head down to the Grasshopper and try out this remarkable gin.
