People across Southport are set to benefit from a government funding boost of more than £37m, which will help put them in charge of transport, broadband connectivity and local infrastructure.
The £37.5m Town Deal will help Southport become a better place to live and work by supporting projects that help local communities and boost economic growth.
Welcoming the news, Southport Conservative MP Damien Moore said he was really excited about the plans for the town.
He said: “This is an exciting opportunity for all our communities here as well as businesses and local leaders to work with the Government to transform Southport’s long-term economic growth prospects, particularly as we meet the challenges presented by Covid-19.
“For example, plans to transform Southport Theatre and Convention Centre, alongside the creation of the UK’s first ever Light and Sound Show at Marine Lake, will help to boost our tourism industry.
“In addition, plans to refurbish the Crown Buildings into an Enterprise Arcade and the creation of a new Enterprise Store will support local small businesses and encourage the growth in the expanding digital economy.”
Commenting on the Town Deal plans, Luke Hall MP, Minister for Regional Growth and Local Government, said he looked forward to working with Damien and others across Southport to make the plans a success, proving that Town Deals are at the heart of the Prime Minister’s commitment to levelling up regions across the country.
