Following the disappointing news that the highly anticipated pre-season friendly against Huddersfield Town had been cancelled, Port hastily arranged a replacement fixture against Longridge Town at the Pure Stadium yesterday afternoon.
The behind closed doors match was a 9-2 goal fest, with young striker George Newell securing his second hat-trick for the Yellows in five days.
This is the second pre-season victory in a row for Liam Watson’s men, as the squad continues to build confidence and come together ahead of the start of the 2020/21 season.
The Sandgrounders are next in action at the Marine Travel Arena in Crosby on Tuesday evening, when they take on Northern Premier League North West Division side Crosby in Port’s first pre-season match with supporters in attendance.
Due to government guidelines there will be a strict limit of 200 allowed in attendance with admission to the game being ticket only.
Away tickets for the match sold out in a matter of hours, leaving many Southport fans disappointed that they will be unable to attend.
Updates from the game will be available from Southport FC’s official media channels with the match due to kick off at 7.30pm.
